Inari plans to widen its revenue base

GEORGE TOWN: Inari Bhd, slated to be listed in the ACE market on July 19, is eyeing the medical equipment and device market to widen its revenue base.

Group managing director Dr Tan Seng Chuan said the group was in the process of obtaining the ISO 14385 certification to enable it to penetrate into the medical device and equipment business.

“We expect to get the certification before the year-end and start the medical device and equipment business in the first quarter of 2012, when our new plant in Bayan Lepas is ready,” he said in an interview after the launch of the group’s prospectus. Also present was investPenang executive committee chairman Datuk Lee Kah Choon.

The new RM25mil three-storey building will house a research and development facility and additional production lines.

“We want to build up our capacity first before making commitments to our customers. We will leverage on our expertise as a semiconductor electronic manufacturing provider to assemble the medical equipment and devices.

“We are exploring manufacturing semiconductor-based sensors for the medical and food industries,” he said.

Tan said when the group’s new plant was ready next year, it would recruit 500 to 600 more workers. It has a workforce of 1,300 people currently. “The group’s main focus would still be on our radio frequency chips for the smart mobile device market.

“A recent International Data Corp Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report forecast that the smartphone market would grow by 55% this year. Vendors will ship a total of 472 million smart phones this year compared with 305 million last year.

“The figure is expected to double to 982 million by the end of 2015,” he said.
